Compliance

We strongly believe the internet should be accessible to everyone, regardless of ability, and we are committed to providing a website that is usable by the broadest possible audience. To achieve this, we aim to comply as strictly as possible to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) at the AA level. These guidelines explain how to make web content accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities. Complying with those guidelines helps us ensure that the website is accessible to blind people, people with motor impairments, visual impairment, cognitive disabilities, and more.

If you have issues accessing any part of our site, please contact us at info@joshdoresstudio.com or on our website’s Contact Page. We are happy to assist you and will work to enhance the accessibility of our site to ensure it is usable by all.

Assistive Technology and Browser Compatibility

We aim to support as many browsers and assistive technologies as possible, so our users can choose the best fitting tools for them, with as few limitations as possible. We support Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Microsoft Edge, NVDA and other screen-readers, and more, for both Windows and Mac users. All text on our website is written in English. We try to use clear and simple language throughout our website to make the content easy to read and understand. We do not restrict the use of language translation software, such as Google Translate or others, so that our site is accessible to users who require language translation.

We have implemented ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) attributes throughout our site to ensure users who utilize screen-readers or other assistive technologies can read, comprehend, and enjoy the website’s functions. We provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes to improve the accessibility of dynamic content and advanced user interface controls that are not natively accessible in HTML. For example, we use appropriate ARIA roles and landmarks (e.g. button, navigation, dialog, etc.) to define the functionality of web elements and help users with assistive technologies navigate between sections of the site quickly and efficiently. We provide accurate form labels, and alerts for invalid form inputs. We provide descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.). We use ARIA attributes to indicate the state of elements such as menus (collapsed or expanded), checkboxes (checked or not checked), and more, to ensure users with disabilities can perceive changes in the user interface that might not be immediately visible to them.

We regularly validate our HTML and CSS code and test our website with screen-readers to ensure compliance with ARIA standards and WCAG guidelines. If you do notice any errors or have issues accessing any part of our site, please contact us at info@joshdoresstudio.com or on our website’s Contact Page. We welcome feedback and are committed to making ongoing improvements to enhance accessibility for all.

Structure & Navigation

We have worked hard to make the structure of our website as user-friendly and easy to navigate as possible for all users. We have implemented an easy-to-use navigation system that allows users to easily find and access content. We have also included a search function to provide multiple methods of finding a specific page. To ensure predictable navigation throughout our site, most pages utilize a consistent header and footer, and every page includes a link back to the homepage. Our website’s user interface is consistent across pages. We avoid sudden changes in context or functionality, ensuring that users can interact with the site without confusion. Each content page features a descriptive title to identify the general content shown on that page. Title text is in a larger font than body text for easy identification and readability. The website is not restricted by orientation (landscape vs portrait), allowing users to view the content in the layout that works best for them. All form fields are clearly labeled, and we provide users with an opportunity to review and correct information before submitting it. In case of errors, users are provided with clear error messages and detailed instructions on how to correct issues, such as incomplete or incorrectly filled-out form fields. We send an Order Confirmation email for all submitted orders, so customers may review the order details and contact us if they notice any errors.

Keyboard Navigation

Our site is intended to be operable with a keyboard so that it is accessible to more individuals. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab, Shift+Tab, and arrow keys, operate dropdowns with  the Tab, Shift+Tab, and arrow keys, enter them with the Enter key and close them with the Esc key, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key. Users may zoom in and out of the site by using Ctrl+ or Ctrl - (Cmd+ or Cmd- on Mac). Additionally, keyboard users will find ‘Skip to Content’ buttons available as the first element of the site while navigating with the keyboard. All interactive elements, such as links, buttons, and form fields, have clear visual indicators to communicate when they have the keyboard’s focus. The order of keyboard focus items is logical and easy to navigate. We test the website’s functionality with keyboard-only navigation to ensure that users can access all content without the need for a mouse.

Visual Elements

We use color on our website solely as a graphics and branding element. We do not use color as the only visual means of conveying information, indicating an action, prompting a response, or distinguishing a visual element. All text and background combinations on our website meet the minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1, in order to ensure readability for users with visual impairments, as outlined in the WCAG 2.1 guidelines.

Text links are underlined to show visual differentiation from body text. Page navigation text links are underlined when active or upon hover. Text alignment is non-justified in order to keep consistent spacing between words and letters, which is easier to read for users. Our website allows users to zoom to resize text up to 200% without loss of content or functionality, ensuring that individuals with low vision or those who require larger text can easily access all information. The website content is designed to be flexible, responsive, and reflow appropriately, to adapt to these changes while maintaining readability and accessibility for a broad audience. All non-text content (e.g. images, logos, etc.) is provided with appropriate alt text so that screen-reader users can understand the primary function or description of the images.

We do not utilize any moving or time-based media (video, audio, animations, GIFs, slideshows, etc.) on our website as these can sometimes be difficult to access for people with certain disabilities. Additionally, we do not have any flashing or blinking content on our website in order to reduce the risk of seizures or physical reactions.

Ongoing Efforts and Feedback

We are committed to improving the accessibility of our website and ensuring that it remains compliant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We conduct regular audits and accessibility testing to identify and fix accessibility issues. Although we strive to make our website as accessible as possible for everyone, there may still be some pages or sections that are not fully accessible, are in the process of becoming accessible, or lack the necessary technological solutions to ensure full accessibility. We are committed to continuously improving accessibility by updating and enhancing its features, as well as adopting new technologies to keep up with advancements.
